This is a great way to finish, a hole that probably will be among the three most difficult. It plays downwind, but uphill. The cross bunkers in the fairway require a 244-yard carry, so shorter hitters will have to go left. Longer hitters can aim for the grass tongue on the bunker and swing away. The approach is semi blind. Landing the ball short and bumping it up is a good play. Shots that fly to the middle of the green could roll over the back edge. Like so many shots at Newport, it's a feel shot, not something you necessarily play by yardage. My prediction is someone will steal a birdie here on the last day and win the tournament.
Your
turn: How should the pros play hole number 18?
