SOUTH KINGSTOWN -- Will Daniels had a disappointing appearance with the Chicago Bulls’ team in the Orlando Summer Classic last week. He got into three games, played only 36 minutes and had only six points and one rebound.

Parfait Bitee played well for his Cameroon National Team in Olympic qualifying this week, under coach Lazare Adingono, a fellow URI grad. Bitee had 31 points and 8 assists, including going 6-for-14 on 3-pointers, as Cameroon lost close games to Croatia and Puerto Rico and was eliminated from Olympic contention. Cameroon was without some of it expected players because the team had not been paid. Bitee spoke about it in an interview with Euro Basketball.

“We made the decision to play for our families and for our coach, although we decided not to play at all while being in the hotel and even in the locker room,” he said. “With the [financial] letdown of our government, it was not our intention to step on the court, but we did and we played with our hearts, so it’s tough to lose another game and be out of the tournament.”

On his time in Rhode Island, he said, “I really miss Rhode Island a lot. I miss the university, the people. I had four great years there and I will be back as soon as I can.”

He is not sure where he goes from here.

“I don’t know what comes up next yet, but it won’t be the D-League,” he said. “I may stay in Europe; it depends what my agent [Keith Glass] works out for me.
