New England Emmy Awards have been won by director Cherry Arnold, for her documentary Buddy: The Rise and Fall of America’s Most Notorious Mayor and by the Rhode Island International Film Festival for a public service announcement.
Arnold’s film, which chronicles the career of former Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci Jr., won the regional Emmy for outstanding documentary at the recent 31st annual Boston/New England Emmy Awards held at Boston’s Copley Place Hotel. It had been shown on Channel 10, which qualified it for the award. Arnold is currently working on a feature-length documentary about autism.
RIIFF’s win was for two spots entitled No Excuses which were created and directed by William Smyth and written and scored by Miraj Berry. They featured actors Richard Donnelly and Phyllis Kay of the Trinity Repertory Company.
