Oprah to give big to R.I. native and her family

01:00 AM EDT on Saturday, April 5, 2008

MACHINSKI

Becky (Lemek) Machinski, 34, a Rhode Island native now living in Lehighton, Pa., will appear on Oprah’s Big Give show tomorrow at 9 p.m. on ABC, Channels 5 and 6. Machinski, who grew up in North Smithfield and whose last Rhode Island residence was in North Providence, will be accompanied by her husband, Mike, 35, and their three daughters: Kylie, 10, Mya, 8, and Emma, 7.

The reality show involves contestants being given money to help people. The Machinskis are one of the recipients of that help. In 2003, Becky Machinski was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and is in remission. And in 2004, her husband was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which has metastasized.

Terry Teachout, drama critic of The Wall Street Journal, gave a glowing review to Trinity Rep’s newest production, Blithe Spirit, in yesterday’s edition of the paper. He applauded the play’s direction, actors (including Fred Sullivan Jr., Barbara Meek, Phyllis Kay and Angela Brazil) and even the set by James Schuette.

Teachout wrote, “This was my first visit to Trinity Rep, one of the oldest and best-regarded theater companies in New England. It won’t be my last.”

Naomi Campbell was released on bail yesterday after a spat with a police officer at Heathrow Airport’s troubled new Terminal 5, where one of her bags was lost.

Campbell, 37, left the airport police station just after midnight. London’s Metropolitan Police said she was released pending further inquiries and told to report to a police station in late May.
