Farmers’ Almanac has colorful forecast
The 2009 Farmers’ Almanac has peak fall color forecasts:
Sept. 28-Oct. 8: Vermont (northern).
Sept. 28-Oct. 29: New York, depending on elevation and distance from coast.
Oct. 5-15: Colorado, Maine (inland), Michigan (northern), Minnesota (northern), Montana (central), New Hampshire (inland), New Mexico, Vermont (southern), Wisconsin, Wyoming.
Oct. 12-22: Arizona, Idaho, Illinois (northern), Indiana (northern), Iowa, Kentucky (eastern), Maine (coastal), Massachusetts (inland), Michigan (southern), Minnesota (northern), Missouri (northern), Montana (western), New Hampshire (coastal), North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia.
Oct. 19-29: Arkansas (Ozarks), California (northern), Connecticut, Illinois (southern), Indiana (southern), Kentucky (western), Maryland (inland), Massachusetts (coastal), Missouri (southern), New Jersey (inland), North Carolina (inland), Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia (inland), Washington.
Five inns in N.H. having a frightful time
Five inns in the Sunapee, N.H., region are offering Halloween events Oct. 24-26.
A Psychic Medium Spiritual Weekend will be held at the Inn at Pleasant Lake in New London, N.H., with rooms starting at $155 and events from $35 (innatpleasantlake.com; 800-626-4907).
At the Blue Acorn Inn in Sunapee, families can decorate a trick-or-treat bag, carve a pumpkin, bob for apples, and join a pumpkin lighting. Rooms start at $100, and the cost is $25 for all activities (blueacorninn.com; 603-863-1144).
The Candlelite Inn in Bradford will feature tarot card readings and ghoulish desserts and other treats throughout the weekend. Prices begin at $343 (candleliteinn.com; 888-812-5571).
At the Rosewood Country Inn, also in Bradford, the accent will be on scary stories along with a buffet. Room prices start at $129 a night, and the buffet and story session costs $39 (rosewoodcountryinn.com; 800-938-5273).
The Inn at Danbury will have a Local Harvest Breakfast & Craft event on Oct. 25. The breakfast will be freshly made from area products, and the handicraft session will draw its inspiration from the season. Rooms begin at $102 with snacks included, with the price for the breakfast/craft session to be announced. That Sunday, a five-course Oktoberfest Wine Dinner will be $69 a person (innatdanbury.com; 866-DANBURY).
