Lynch asks DEM to put a stop to dredging plan
TIVERTON — Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch last night called on the state Department of Environmental Management to suspend its review of an application to dredge a section of Mount Hope Bay that would clear the way for tanker ships to reach a proposed liquefied natural gas terminal in Fall River.

Hearings on Bay dredging for LNG ships to start tonight
TIVERTON — As part of the review process for a controversial plan to dredge Mount Hope Bay to clear room for tanker ships that would supply a proposed liquefied natural gas terminal in Fall River, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is holding two public hearings starting tonight. The hearing will be held at Tiverton High School, 100 North Brayton Rd., and is scheduled to start at 6:30 and end at 10. The second is set for next Monday at Mt. Hope High School, 199 Chestnut St., Bristol. It will also run from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The public may attend the hearings and comment on the dredging plans.

Candidate asks for recount
TIVERTON — The eighth-ranked candidate in the race for seven seats on the Town Council has asked for a recount of the ballots from last Tuesday’s election.

TIVERTON — Mail ballots counted yesterday have narrowed Paul E. Carroll’s lead to just six votes in the race for the seventh seat on the Town Council.

Mail ballots must be counted to decide council race
TIVERTON — Incumbents Cecil E. Leonard and Arthur R. Wyman Jr. may have lost their bids for reelection on the Tiverton Town Council last night as challengers Hannibal F. Costa, the former town clerk, and John G. Edwards IV squeezed them out in the 10-way contest. A third challenger, former council president Claudette J. Linhares, came in last.
