Westerly troupe back with Shakespeare
04:20 PM EDT on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Westerly’s Colonial Theatre, the troupe that brings live Shakespeare to Wilcox Park each summer, will be staging The Two Gentlemen of Verona next month. Performances are slated from July 16 through Aug. 2, weather permitting.
Enrique Bravo, who charmed audiences two years ago as Romeo, is back as Proteus, one of the gentlemen, and Patricia Santomasso, Phoebe in last summer’s As You Like It, will take on the role of Sylvia, the object of the gentlemen’s affections. Ed Franklin, a Watch Hill resident who is a veteran of 10 park productions, returns as the Duke, Sylvia’s father.
Award-winning composer and Westerly resident Flav Martin is composing a score for the show.
Performances take place Tuesday through Sunday in the downtown park. Admission is free, but donations are welcomed.
Correction: A previous version of this story had an incorrect start date for the show.
