01:00 AM EDT on Saturday, August 23, 2008
The season’s set. This week Festival Ballet Providence announced the lineup for its 31st season, which begins Sept. 27. It starts with the Up Close on Hope series, which features a medley of different dances presented at Festival’s Hope Street studio in Providence. The show will be presented three additional weekends: Oct. 4; Nov. 8-9 and 15-16.
The company, under the direction of Mihailo Djuric, presents its first main-stage production on Oct. 24-26, the classic ballet of Giselle. In December, Festival performs its annual production of The Nutcracker. In February, it’s Scheherazade’s A Thousand and One Nights: The Adventures of Aladdin, Sinbad & Ali Baba.
In March, Festival presents a second production of Up Close on Hope. And in April, the season wraps up with a triple bill, The Power of 3, which will feature three works from three choreographers: “Donizetti Variations” by George Balanchine, “Jardin Aux Lilas” by Antony Tudor, and a new, not-yet-created piece by guest choreographer Viktor Plotnikov.
