Four new beaches at Quonset Point
09:15 AM EDT on Thursday, May 22, 2008
In addition to state and municipally run beaches, the Quonset Development Corporation has recently added public amenities to four beaches on or abutting its 3,000-acre property that are still largely unknown to the public.
Blue, Compass Rose, and Spink’s beaches span 3,000 feet total, and now offer parking, trash cans, fresh grass and landscaping.
The QDC has also paved parking spots and added bike racks for bikers who want to ride the 1.25 miles to Calf Pasture Point, a 189-acre peninsula with a one-mile stretch of sandy beach. The property is owned by North Kingstown, but the corporation completed the work because of its proximity to the industrial park.
All beaches are free and open from dusk until dawn. There is no lifeguard on duty and no alcohol or open fires are allowed.
