LaMont Jordan returns, runs for a spot on team

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- After a solid introductory performance, accounting for 76 of the Patriots’ 133-rushing yards against the Ravens in New England’s preseason opener, LaMont Jordan returned to the game field last night after missing the second and third games because of injury.
Trying to earn a spot in a crowded backfield, Jordan said this week that his goal was to be on the roster, regardless of what his role might be.
“I said it from day one: I’m trying to make this ball club. Once they make final cuts, hopefully I’m here. Once that happens, it’s just a matter of getting out there and playing football together,” Jordan said.
Jordan came onto the field for the first time in the second quarter, getting the ball from Matt Gutierrez on three straight plays but failing to pick up a first down. On New England’s next possession, Jordan picked up 11 yards on the first play from scrimmage, and later caught a screen pass that he took for a 23-yard gain, shoved out of bounds at the New York two-yard line.
Jordan had 27 yards on six carries and the reception.
