Red Sox 6, Yankees 4 -- Damon suffers shoulder injury while banging into wall trying to catch Youkilis' drive01:16 AM EDT on Saturday, July 5, 2008NEW YORK -- Johnny Damon suffered a sprain in his left shoulder when he banged into the left-field wall attempting to catch Kevin Youkilis' two-run triple in the third. Damon threw the ball back into the infield, and winced in pain. He came out and was replaced by rookie Brett Gardiner. Yankee manager Joe Girardi said Damon was day-to-day, but after the game, there were indications that Damon could be out for a while. At the very least, Damon acknowledged that he won't play again in this series. "I'm not sure how long this is going to last," said Damon, his shoulder wrapped in ice "It definitely doesn't feel good." Asked to compare this shoulder injury to the ones he suffered while with the Red Sox and limited his play in 2005, Damon said: "This feels like a lot more pain and a lot less mobility." Speaking from experience on Damon's toughness, Red Sox manager Terry Francona said: "When Johnny Damon comes out of the game that can’t be good."
