PawSox journal: Lowrie returns to lineup
09:24 PM EDT on Saturday, June 27, 2009
PAWTUCKET – Jed Lowrie’s rehab is back on track.
Lowrie, on a 20-day rehab assignment (left wrist surgery) with Pawtucket, missed the PawSox' previous three games after being hit in his left leg with a pitch on Tuesday. He returned Saturday night and went 0-for-2 in Pawtucket’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Syracuse.
He fielded four ground balls, resulting in four outs (one double play) and one error. The error came on Jorge Padilla’s hard-hit ground ball that looked like it was heading into left field.
Lowrie tracked down the ball, scooped it up, and threw it off of his back foot towards first base. The ball missed its target wide left and Padilla, who was awarded a hit on the play, sprinted all the way to third base on the two-base error as Pete Orr scored from second base, cutting Pawtucket’s lead to 2-1.
Lowrie shook off the error and didn't make a mistake the rest of the night. He helped turn a 6-4-3 double play with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth inning to prevent the Chiefs from taking the lead and was replaced by Travis Denker in the seventh inning.
Lowrie said he hopes to rejoin the Red Sox before the All-Star break in mid-July.
“I kind of feel like I just need to get healthy and continue to play and prove to them that I’m the player that they saw in spring training,” Lowrie said. “That I’m the player that I was when I first got called up so that’s just for me to get healthy and go out there and do it.”
Boston manager Terry Francona said that Lowrie joining the PawSox after the All-Star break might be more realistic.
“I’m here to get back into the routine of it – coming to the park, preparing myself day in and day out,” Lowrie said. “As for the timetable, I’m not sure when, if it will be before the All-Star break but that’s what I’m pushing for. But once again, you can’t always predict [the future].”

Last week was a wild one for Pawtucket catcher Dusty Brown. It was a week that he will never forget.
The Pawtucket catcher got called-up to Boston last Sunday to replace injured Boston pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka. He made his major league debut on Tuesday catching Daniel Bard for the final three outs of the Red Sox’ 11-3 victory over Washington before being sent back down to Pawtucket on Wednesday when Boston activated pitcher John Smoltz.
He called his first four days of major league experience “awesome,” and that he plans to work even harder to get back to the major league level.
“It was awesome and everyone was great to me,” he said. “You get a taste of it now. When I go back I know what I’m playing for and where I want to be.”
Pawtucket manager Ron Johnson didn’t feel it was necessary for Brown to fly all the way to Norfolk to join the PawSox for the final two days of the road trip so he gave Brown those two days off. He was back in Pawtucket’s lineup Saturday night and didn’t disappoint. He went 2-for-4.
Brown had been struggling this season at bat prior to Saturday night, hitting just .239 with two home runs and 12 RBI. Last season he hit .290 with 12 home runs and 55 RBI with the PawSox. He has hit safely in three of his last four games, going 4-for-15 with a double and two RBI.

In a tribute to the late Michael Jackson, the PawSox played a lot of Jackson songs Saturday night on Dunkin Donuts free travel mug night.
