Editorial: Bill Parrillo, 1942-2003
Bill Parrillo, who died last Friday, was a great gentleman and a great sportswriter. Endlessly hard-working, affable and yet a perfectionist, he leaves a large void at The Journal, where he had worked since 1963 and been a columnist for 28 years.

A second chance

'Is this the way the world ends?'
The bus was ready to leave. Or so it seemed. I went to step aboard. "You don't want to take this one," the driver warned.

Deepest impression of all: 3 hours in no-man's land
Only a few hours left now. Only a few hours before we ring out the old and bring in the new. Only a few hours and 1988 becomes a memory. Before it's gone, here's one last look back at what's stored in the memory bank. I don't remember games or scores or who made all the touchdowns.
