The 2008 season has ended for Bryant and Wheaton.

The Bulldogs rallied for four consecutive victories in the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional but lost the championship game to top-seeded Franklin Pierce, 10-3, Monday. They forced the deciding game by beating FP, 12-10, in the first game Monday. Bryant finished the season 43-21, a school record for victories. Franklin Pierce advanced to the Division II College World Series for the third consecutive season.

Bryant catcher Jeff Vigurs, second baseman Dave Muscatello, outfielder Pat O’Connor and designated hitter Pat McKenna were named to the all-tournament team.

Wheaton was 2-2 at the NCAA Division III New England Regional. The Lyons defeated Worcester State, 4-3, in 12 innings and Keene State, 12-2, before losing to undefeated Trinity, 6-2, and Southern Maine, 9-3. Wheaton’s final record was 34-10.

Trinity, the New England champion, improved to 41-0 and broke the NCAA Division III winning streak record held by Marietta College. The Bantams will play in the NCAA Championships next weekend at Appleton, Wisc.

Wheaton pitcher Adam Gingras (Woonsocket) was 8-0 and tied the school record for victories in a season and shutouts (2). He was the winning pitcher in the Keene State game.

Jared Barnes (North Attleboro/Bishop Feehan) pitched two scoreless innings of relief and got the win against Worcester State. Reliever Josh Simmons (Cranston West) struck out the only batter he faced in the game.
