Pats work to help Meriweather hang on to the ball
07:37 AM EDT on Friday, August 1, 2008
FOXBORO -- When asked about the improvement of the hands in safety Brandon Meriweather, Bill Belichick smiled and said that “there was pretty much only one way to go.”
That’s another way of saying the Miami product let a lot of balls slip through his fingers in his rookie season. After an offseason catching balls from a Juggs machine, Meriweather will be looking to grab his first NFL interception this fall.
“We did a lot of stuff to work on my hands,” said Meriweather. “I shook (last year) off but I wanted to get every one that I touched.”
Meriweather is benefiting from the experience he gained during rookie season. The 5-foot-11, 200-pounder has a chance to make an impact at both safety and cornerback this season.
“It’s a totally different Brandon right now,” he said about himself. “I’m more confident in my playbook and confident in what (I) say is right.”
