Beckett and Wakefield get in some throwing
12:35 PM EDT on Saturday, August 23, 2008
TORONTO -- Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett played catch yesterday afternoon with pitching coach John Farrell for about 10 minutes. Trainer Mike Reinold watched.
“He had no complaints,” said manager Terry Francona. “He threw the ball pretty well. We just want to make sure we do the right thing.”
The right-hander has been feeling numbness and tingling in his fingers on his throwing hand of late. As a result, his start was pushed back three days and he’s scheduled to pitch on Tuesday in New York.
After playing catch, Beckett had treatment and said nothing is different. He will throw a side session today at Rogers Centre.
Tim Wakefield (shoulder stiffness) also will throw a side session today. He said he’s pain free and could pitch the next series in New York if needed.
Francona said he won’t name Wednesday’s starter until both Beckett and Wakefield throw their side sessions.
