01:00 AM EDT on Saturday, November 1, 2008
HOUSTON — Jason Deitsch scored one goal and assisted on two others as the Houston Aeros posted a 4-2 victory over the Providence Bruins last night at the Toyota Center.
The P-Bruins got their goals from Matt Lashoff and Levi Nelson.
The P-Bruins grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 5:41 mark of the opening period. Mikko Lehtonen stole the puck in the corner and fed it to Martin St. Pierre in the left faceoff circle. He passed it to a wide open Lashoff in the left circle and Lashoff sent the puck top shelf into the net for his second goal of the season.
Just over a minute later, at the 6:57 mark, the Aeros tied the game at one when Deitsch netted his second goal of the season. Krys Kolanos had the lone assist.
The Aeros took their first lead of the game at the 1:52 mark of the second period. Kolanos tallied his sixth goal of the season with Corey Locke grabbing the lone assist.
The P-Bruins battled back to tie the game at two at the 15:37 mark. Jordan Knackstedt held the puck along the right boards and worked it to Johnny Boychuk at the right point. He took a shot that was blocked on its way to the net, but Nelson was there to scoop up the loose puck and score his first goal of the season.
In the third period, the Aeros took the lead for good on a Danny Irmen tally at the 3:26 mark.
The Aeros finished off the scoring with an empty-net goal at the 19:21 mark from Bryan Lundbohm.
Kevin Regan stopped 20 of 23 shots for the P-Bruins, while Nolan Schaefer, the former Providence College star, made 25 saves for the Aeros. 4 2 Next Game Tonight at San Antonio, 8 p.m.
