North Kingstown, Hopkinton, New Bedford dogs win titles

01:00 AM EST on Sunday, November 16, 2008

Bibelot Tolka’s Hands-Up MH, a two-year-old standard poodle from North Kingstown, has become the youngest poodle ever to earn an American Kennel Club Master Hunter title.

She qualified quickly, in five of six tests, to complete the AKC requirements.

Owned by Mia DiBenedetto and Jack Combs, “Ten” earned her Master Hunter title by receiving a fifth qualifying score at the Long Island Golden Retriever Club Retriever Hunt Test on Oct. 24 at the Otis Pike Preserve in Manorville, N.Y. She is trained and handled by Combs.

Ten is also a certified therapy dog, and participates as a pet-assisted therapy team with DiBenedetto at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.

Field trial titlist

Chasehill Little Bud, an English pointer owned, trained and handled by John Stolgitis of Hopkinton, continues to roll up the titles.

In early November, Bud was named runner-up champion at the Region 1 Amateur All-Age Championship, a field-trial event that drew a small but competitive field of 11 dogs from around the Northeast. Named champion in the event was East Coast Sadie, an English pointer owned by John Malone of Bolton, Conn. The event was held in Glastonbury, Conn.

In October, Bud, a three-year-old pointer, beat out a field of 34 highly competitive bird dogs to win the runner-up spot at the 80th New England Open Championship in Pomfret, Conn.

Obedience winner

OTCH Winthrop’s Gadomski’s Grover UDX 16 won both the Open B and Utility B classes to be named High In Trial and High Combined at the Obedience Training Club of Rhode Island’s recent AKC-sanctioned obedience trial. The golden retriever is owned and handled by Rita Gadomski of New Bedford, Mass. The event was held at Thayer Arena in Warwick, with 143 dogs entered.
