Jan Gregory: Dog Notes: Kennel Club elects new officers

Roland Pelland was named president of South County Kennel Club at the club’s recent meeting. Also elected were Richard Grant, vice president; Arlene Grant, secretary; Colleen Croteau, treasurer, and Jane Pelland, AKC delegate.

Named to the board of directors were Ovide Varin, Steve Croteau, and Joyce Iaciofano.

Spaniel match

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Southern New England will hold its second “A” match on Saturday, at Canine Mastery, 102A Pond St., Seekonk. Judging begins at 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be available. Admission is free.

Summer camp

Camp Best Friends day camp for youngsters and their dogs will hold three sessions this summer. The first runs from tomorrow through Friday; the second, July 28-Aug. 1, and the third, Aug. 18-22 at the Canine Training Center, 71A Wheaton Ave., Rehoboth.

For youngsters who don’t have a canine friend of their own, dogs will be available to borrow on a limited basis.

Scholarships are available along with discounts for multiple siblings.

Events include dog training, nature walks, agility, rally, games, guest speakers, a dog show, barbecue and hay rides.

Training classes

•Cozy Paws/K9 International at 495 Nooseneck Hill Rd. in Exeter, is offering the following summer classes:

Beginner obedience, Tuesdays at 6 p.m. (starts July 15); introduction to agility, Tuesdays at 7 p.m. (starts July 15); advanced beginner agility, Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. (starts July 16); beginner agility, Wednesdays at 7:40 p.m. (starts July 16), and conformation classes, Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. (ongoing).

Private lessons and ring rental are available.

•The K9 Connection is starting puppy manners classes tomorrow at 6 p.m. and Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Basic obedience classes start Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Drop-in rally run-throughs are held Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. Drop-in agility run-throughs are held Fridays at 7:30 p.m.

•The Canine Training Center, 71A Wheaton Ave., Rehoboth, will hold drop-in rally classes on Mondays at 6 p.m., followed by advanced obedience classes at 7:30. Breed-handling and junior showmanship classes will be held Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m., followed by beginner/puppy obedience classes at 7:30. On Saturdays at 10:30 a.m., beginner/puppy obedience classes will be held.

•The Key Dog Training Club of Rhode Island is holding novice and open obedience classes every Tuesday at 3 p.m., followed by beginner and puppy classes at 5:30 and 6:30, open and utility at 7:15, and novice rally at 8. Classes are at Rocky Hill Grange, 1340 South County Trail, East Greenwich. For information, call (401) 885-1829.
