Four collectibles shows are on the horizon — three for collectors for whom athletes such as Mickey Mantle reign as kings, and one for collectors more interested in characters like Mickey Mouse in far different kinds of kingdoms.

Leading off, tomorrow, is a Douglas Keating show at the Mansfield, Mass., Holiday Inn with two former Red Sox teammates — pitcher Bob Stanley and catcher Rich Gedman — signing from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during the 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. event.

Stanley and Gedman were frequent batterymates for close to a decade with Boston, including the 1986 World Series. Stanley had a 115-97 career record with 132 saves and was a two-time All-Star, as was Gedman, a catcher who was behind the plate for the first nine innings of the longest game in baseball when he was with the Pawtucket Red Sox early in his career.

Stanley has been a coach with the Double-A Eastern League Connecticut Defenders for the past few years, while Gedman has been the manager of the Worcester Tornadoes in the Can-Am League.

Then, next Sunday — there is the annual charity show and auction of the Southern New England Sports Collectors Club. The club was founded in 1991 and, from the beginning, its annual shows have been throwbacks to sports collecting when the primary focus was simply dealers and collectors getting together over collections of cards and memorabilia.

This year’s event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Randolph, Mass., Elks Club hall (off Route 28, behind the CVS store). Most of the dealers who set up at the event are collectors themselves and members of the club, which meets on the first Wednesday of each month through most of the year. A live auction with Steve Regal and crew accepting bids begins at noon. Admission is free.

The following week will mark the 23rd annual Greater Boston Sports Collectors Club show, a large-scale event featuring about 18 autograph guests, grading on site and more than 250 top dealers — including the nation’s largest, Alan “Mr. Mint” Rosen.

This is a three-day show (Friday, Oct. 31 through Sunday, Nov. 2) at Shriner’s Auditorium in Wilmington, Mass. Over those three days, $1,200 in door prizes and several $200 “shopping spree” prizes will be awarded. Daily admission is $5, but free for seniors and kids under age 12.

The lineup of autograph guests assembled by Sure Shot Promotions includes eight hall of famers (baseball’s Yogi Berra, Johnny Bench, Tony Gwynn and Tom Seaver, plus hockey’s Phil Esposito, Ray Bourque, Gordie Howe and Terry O’Reilly), the three Papelbon brothers (Jonathan, Josh and Jeremy), six other current or former Red Sox stars (Jon Lester, Tim Wakefield, Jim Lonborg, Daniel Bard, Wilbur Wood and Justin Masterson) and ex-Bruin (Ken Hodge). For the signing schedule and prices, collectors should check the www.sureshotpromotions.com site.

Meanwhile, in Allentown, Pa., there will be a two-day show for collectors more interested in Yogi Bear than Yogi Berra. It’s the 49th Philly Non-Sport Show, a biannual event now in its 24th year of bringing non-sport cards, comics, toys and related items to the region’s collectors.

Next Saturday and Sunday are the show dates at Allentown’s Merchants Square Mall featuring more than 60 of the nation’s top dealers. Sponsored by Non-Sport Update magazine, in association with Frank and Phyllis Reighter, the event will include panel discussions, a NSU card-talk breakfast, free promo cards exclusive to the show and door prizes. Admission is $6 on Saturday (children under 12 free), but free on Sunday.

RESEARCH, ON ICE: The 670-member R.I. Red Heritage Society will host the fall meeting of The Society for International Hockey Research on Friday and Saturday in Warwick. The society is a worldwide organization that promotes and records the study of ice hockey and comprises collectors, writers, broadcasters, academics and fans. Among highlights of the event at the Hampton Inn & Suites will be a panel discussion that features Hockey Hall of Famer Fern Flaman and former Reds and Bruins goaltender Ross Brooks, plus the preview showing of a video history of the Reds led by Buster Clegg, the heritage society’s founding president. Tom McDonough, a heritage society board member, is host chairman.
