No surprises on local ballot

WEST GREENWICH -- There were no surprises in yesterday's local elections. For the third year in a row, the Town Council seats were decided before the polls opened.

Five Republicans -- three incumbents and two newcomers -- ran unopposed for the five at-large Town Council spots. They are Thaylen H. Waltonen, Robert H. Meehan Sr., Richard J. Sitkus, Richard Huntsman and Robert S. Butler.

The open West Greenwich seat on the Exeter-West Greenwich Regional School Committee went to Robert L. Houghtaling, an incumbent Republican, who also ran unopposed.
