A Time to Die

1/5/97: In his flurry of activity -- fighting for a cause, getting international attention, seeing his old friends -- have the pleasures of day-to-day life preoccupied him until it is too late to carry out his suicide plan? Is his heart simply incapable of executing what his mind has decided upon? Two days ago, on Jan. 3, he asked a close friend whether he would kill him; the friend said no.
