The Providence Journal's forecast published Monday morning, Feb. 6, 1978:
PROVIDENCE AND VICINITY, COASTAL R.I., and CONN., CAPE COD AND THE ISLANDS, AND BOSTON AND VICINITY: Snow heavy at times tonight. Probable accumulations of 8 to 16 inches. Windy with drifting. Snow ending tomorrow. Low tonight in the teens. High tomorrow in the 20s. Northeast winds, 25 to 40 mph tonight and north winds 25 to 35 mph tomorrow.
NARRAGANSETT BAY: East winds 35 to 50 knots with higher gusts tonight and tomorrow. Snow heavy at times tonight and early tomorrow. Visibility near zero in snow. Seas building to 3 to 6 feet tonight. Tides 2 to 4 feet above normal with flooding at high tide tonight and early tomorrow. (High tides at 7 p.m. and 7:27 a.m. in Providence.)
EXTENDED OUTLOOK: Fair and cold Wednesday through Friday. Daytime highs in 20s Wednesday and Friday and in teens to low 20s Thursday. Overnight lows 5 to 15 near coast and 5 above to 5 below inland.
