Blizzard of '78: Trying to keep a stiff upper lip
02/02/2003
At Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, Joan Clarke and some of her colleagues worked double shifts, napped on the floor and took turns showering in the morgue -- with several bodies only a few feet away.
"On day 5, my husband Ron came and took me and two others home," Clarke remembers. "For the [next] two weeks, the Georgia Militia [Georgia's emergency response team] picked up locals on the corners of Newport Avenue, Central Avenue and Benefit Street and took us to work. We all chuckle when we go over our 'Great Adventure.' "
