Revs up lead to 4 over Wizards07:37 AM EDT on Friday, August 3, 2007FOXBORO — Pat Noonan’s fifth goal of the season sparked the New England Revolution to a 2-0 victory over the Kansas City Wizards last night. Noonan’s goal in the 55th minute was his third in three matches as the Eastern Conference-leading Revolution (9-3-6) extended their unbeaten streak to five (3-0-2). New England rookie Adam Cristman scored his fourth goal in the 91st minute, converting a cross on the left side from midfielder Steve Ralston. Kansas City (8-6-5) fell four points behind New England in the conference standings. The Revolution hadn’t beaten the Wizards at home since Sept. 7, 1999. Khano Smith set the Revolution’s winning goal in motion with a cross from the left wing, which New England’s leading scorer, Taylor Twellman, headed from the right side. Noonan then beat a Kansas City defender to an open spot, scoring from 12 yards. Kansas City threatened in the 30th minute when Carlos Marinelli sent a drive from atop the penalty box that deflected off defender Michael Parkhurst. Matt Reis had to make a diving right-handed save on the ball, which then banged off the right goal post. The Wizards also had Eddie Johnson’s shot from 22 yards in the 17th minute go just wide. Jack Jewsbury had a right-footed drive in the 21st minute denied by Reis, who posted his seventh shutout of the season. |
