HAZARDOUS WORK:
Dr. Selim Suner, left, team commander of the Rhode Island Disaster Medical Assistance
Team and an emergency-room physician at Rhode Island Hospital, and Dr. John
Sullivan assist an ironworker who was impaled by a piece of steel reinforcement
beam. After his wound was cleaned and bandaged, the man was sent by ambulance
to Bellevue Hospital to be sure his abdominal cavity wasn't punctured. Cuts,
blisters, respiratory problems and dust-caked eyes are among the ailments medical
personnel are seeing close to Ground Zero. |
