A host of stylish rugs heads for the patio
The vast appeal of outdoor living, fueled by scads of alluring patio furniture, has led to a growing roster of weatherproof decorative products. Stylish rugs, traditionally reserved for interior purposes, are racing out the door. Rugs add a finishing touch that turns clusters of tables and chairs into cohesive-looking settings. The new generation of carpets hitting garden departments coordinates with popular patio cushion and fabric designs. From imitation sisal to stripes and floral patterns, these accent pieces are arriving in all sizes and shapes. Some of the rugs are even reversible, doing double duty in high-traffic areas. Manufacturers promise that the synthetic plastic (Olefin) will ward off mold and stains, resist fading and hold up under any weather conditions. Some rugs even carry a one-year warranty. Cleaning couldn't be easier; simply point your hose and spray away debris. And that's not all the good news. Prices are surprisingly reasonable. A typical 5-foot-3-inch by 7-foot-6-inch rug may be found for about $120; a 9-foot-6-inch by 12-foot-9-inch rug for less than $400. So when you're gazing at your patio and wondering what's missing, consider the big design statement a rug makes. It just may be exactly what you need to complete the inside look, outside.
