During the next summer Olympic Games in 2012, American Sarah Hillyer hopes to be rooting for the Iraqi women's basketball team.

That's because Hillyer, a former collegiate player at Virginia Tech now working on a doctorate in sport sociology at Tennessee, helped organize the first Iraqi women's Olympic basketball training camp.

The goal is to build not only a team but also individuals in a country engulfed in war since 2003.

Hillyer is the women's sports coordinator for Global Sports Partners' Sport 4 Peace, which works to develop sports programs in countries where children have no other access to them.

In July, she and five other former collegiate women's basketball players spent 10 days in Iraq, hosting the camp for 60 girls ages 12 to 14.
