Authorities say a civilian contract employee who worked in Iraq will be returned to Texas to face allegations of sexual assault in Iraq.
The FBI says 27-year-old Jorge Thornton was arrested Sunday at Fort Benning, charged with aggravated sexual abuse. He appeared Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge G. Mallon Faircloth in Columbus.
An indictment by a federal grand jury in Waco, Texas, says Thornton worked in Tal Afar, western Iraq for BlackHawk Management Corporation. The Houston-based company provides logistical support to U.S. forces at Forward Operating Base Sykes at Tal Afar.
The indictment says he forced sexual contact on a woman there on June 14. The indictment doesn't say whether the woman is a soldier or another civilian contractor.
