<p>Maj. Gen. Edward W. Tonini is spending the week in Iraq visiting with Kentucky National Guard troops.
<p>Tonini, Kentucky's adjutant general, said in a telephone interview Wednesday that he has "an all new appreciation for the tremendously difficult job" the military is doing in Iraq. More than 300 Kentucky guardsmen are currently stationed there.
<p>Tonini said conditions have improved "as far as the level of hostility." But he said the "unbelievable heat" remains an enemy for the troops.
