School repairs, town vehicles approved
SEEKONK — After seeing some town services gutted earlier this year after a Proposition 1/2 override failed, voters moved last night to restore many of those cuts during the fall Town Meeting.

Spending proposals up for vote on Monday
SEEKONK — Five months after town officials announced drastic personnel cuts and the closing of an elementary school, voters at Monday’s Town Meeting will decide whether to reinstate a handful of teaching jobs, hire three police officers and five firefighters, lease a fire truck and new police cruisers, and give former Selectman — and now veterans agent — Donald Kinniburgh a $16,264 increase in pay.

The address for buying tickets to the Dec. 5 retirement dinner for Seekonk animal-control officer Jan Bowden was incorrect in the Nov. 2 Journal. It is the town clerk’s office, 100 Peck St.

Liquor stores 1, grocers 0
Voters in Massachusetts handed liquor-store owners an early Christmas present Tuesday as they handily defeated a ballot initiative that would have expanded the number of stores that could sell wine.

D’Amico tops Howitt in 4th Bristol District
In the battle of two Steves from Seekonk, Democrat Steve D’Amico won election to become the first new state representative for the 4th Bristol District in 24 years. He will succeed longtime Rep. Philip Travis to represent Seekonk, Rehoboth and parts of Swansea and Norton on Beacon Hill.
