Honoring those who died defending our nation isn't such an abstract idea this year.

Driven to vacation: U.S. hits the road for holiday
People are planning to kick off the summer season this Memorial Day weekend by traveling, according to several surveys. That should be good news for popular, local vacation spots, such as Newport.

Rhode Island National Guard over Memorial Day Weekend
Members of the 43rd Military Police Brigade will be at the following parades and ceremonies. The 43rd encompasses members of the 115th, 118th and 119th units, most of whom returned from Iraq in April.

Seat-belt use is urged, or a $75 ticket awaits
PROVIDENCE -- While the rest of us are planning our Memorial Day weekends and remembering the nation's dead members of the military, police and hospital trauma experts are pleading, practically begging us, to take the moment to fasten our seat.
