The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
The Rhode Island chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team-in-Training Program is recruiting people to raise money for the society as train to run or walk a full or half marathon in honor of local patients. Anyone interested should call Teresa Collins or Julie Cygawnoski at 943-8888. Organizers are now recruiting runners and walkers for the Walt Disney World Marathon & Half Marathon on Jan. 9, and P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & Half Marathon, also Jan. 9. The program includes weekly training sessions, team training events, past participant mentors and clinics on nutrition, shoes and equipment, injury prevention and saftey. After five months of training, and under the guidance of a certified coach, team members will be prepared to run or walk a marathon (26.2 miles). Besides training for endurance, participants are also given advice and innovative ideas to meet their fundraising goals. Upon completing these goals, the society arranges airfare and lodging to send participants and their teammates to join other society chapter teams nationwide at the event. To learn more, information sessions will be held at these locations: Today, 7 p.m., Camire's Athletic Soles, Wakefield; and on Monday, 6:30 p.m., Dave & Buster's, Providence Place mall.
