The Providence Journal is publishing requests from local charities for holiday giving. If your nonprofit organization is seeking holiday donations or volunteers, or if it has services or goods to offer the needy, we will publish your request once during the holiday season, as space permits. The complete list of holiday giving and donations will be posted on our Web site, projo.com.

GENERAL
VIPS (Volunteers In Providence Schools)
The organization provides after-school tutoring and enrichment classes to hungry teenagers who attend Providence public schools. There are 25 or so high school students who come each day to theTechnology & Learning Center every afternoon for three hours after school to get homework help and tutoring. The organizationreally needs gift cards from area grocery stores or donations that will help us feed these hungry and eager-to-learn teenage students. ANIMALS
Animals Depend On People Too (A.D.O.P.T.)
The group that helps homeless pets at the Cranston Animal Shelter and throughout the state, is in need of monetary donations. The Hope For Animals Sanctuary
The cat shelter is in need of cash donations as well as litter, toys, cat food, cat toys, and soft blankets for beds. AIDS Care Ocean State

Bradford Jonnycake Center
This center, located at 23 Industrial Dr., Westerly, seeks monetary donations for its Heating Assistance Fund and food pantry. They also seek volunteers to “adopt a family” for the holiday. Camp Street Community Ministries

Child and Family Services of Newport

Children’s Friend
This agency matches sponsors with families for whom they will buy gifts and wrapping materials to be delivered to the agency at 153 Summer St., Providence, RI 02903. Cash donations for gift certificates to grocery and department stores, new coats, hats, gloves, socks and underwear for all ages and new toys are also needed. Those unable to sponsor a family can still help by making a cash donation to the year-round Emergency Crisis Fund. Crossroads Rhode Island
This agency seeks monetary donations as well as new sweat pants, shoes, boots, towels and face cloths and phone, grocery and retail gift cards. The Dept. of Human Services in Foster
This agency will be providing Christmas baskets to assist families during the holidays. The St. Vincent de Paul Society at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus

The Tomorrow Fund
Volunteer gift wrappers will be located on the second floor of the Providence Place Mall near the JCPenney store during the month of December. All proceeds will benefit The Tomorrow Fund, a local nonprofit organization that provides direct financial and emotional support to children with cancer at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
Toys for Tots
This annual program, administered by the U.S. Marine Corps., is in need of donations. Unwrapped new and like new toys and clothing can be dropped off at any of the Cardi’s Furniture Superstores during regular showroom hours.
Turning Point

Public school teachers in Providence, Cranston and Warwick can submit short proposals for materials or experiences they would like their students to have, then “citizen philanthropists” search the proposals and choose to fund those they find most compelling. When funded, DonorsChoose.org ships the materials directly to the teacher at his/her school along with a disposable camera and has the teacher take photos of the students using the materials and have students write thank you notes to the donor(s) showing how their generous gift was put to use. Keep the Heat On
This program — established by Thomas J. Tobin, the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, to provide heating assistance for struggling individuals and families who have exhausted all other public and private means — seeks monetary donations. The program is supported by generous donors and is matched — dollar for dollar — up to $75,000 per year with a matching grant from the Diocese of Providence’s Catholic Charity fund. ♣♣♣♣♣♣♣Feinstein money added to your donation: Donations made to any local nonprofit agency through Dec. 31 will be matched by the Feinstein Foundation with its fund of $100,000. If the total raised from the challenge exceeds $100,000, as is expected, a maximum amount of $10,000 will be set for any one participating agency. The rest of the $100,000 will be divided proportionately among all participating agencies. For an organization to receive matching money, it must send proof of its tax-exempt status (or affiliation with a tax-exempt group) with a typed letter bearing the organization’s full name and address. The letter must cite the total amount of money raised from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31. Only money or food value raised from use of the Feinstein challenge should be reported.
