2006 World Scholar-Athlete Games, sponsored by the Institute for International Sport and held June 24-July 2 in Kingston at the University of Rhode Island and in Newport. 874-4334. A 10-day program for more than 2,000 scholar-athletes and scholar-artists from more than 160 countries and all 50 states to foster understanding and friendship among world athletes, and, indirectly, among nations. Eligible participants have completed grades 9, 10, 11 or 12. Sports programs include baseball, basketball, chess, golf, field hockey, lacrosse, rubgy, sailing, soccer, squash, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Arts programs are art, choir, culinary arts, dance, photography, symphony, theater and writing and poetry. Each candidate must submit an application and two letters of recommendation. Cost: $750.
