Campers begin diving with kid-size equipment in heated indoor pool and finish their ocean dives in Jamestown earning a junior certification. The Edgewood Sailing School, housed in the Edgewood Yacht Club in Cranston, has programs for young sailors, both those who are just starting out and those who want to build on their skills and learn how to race.

Battleship Cove Community Boating Youth Sailing Program, Heritage State Park, Fall River. Introductory, intermediate and advanced sailing instruction for ages 8-18. Rocky Hill Kayaking Camp, Rocky Hill School, 530 Ives Rd., East Greenwich. 884-9070; www.rockyhill.org. Introduction to kayaking for ages 10-14. On-campus lessons in proper boat handling, paddling techniques and rollover recovery; class travels to off-campus on last day, exposing students to conditions from open water on the bay to inland streams and rivers. Rocky Hill Sailing Camp, Rocky Hill School, 530 Ives Rd., East Greenwich. 884-9070. For ages 9-14. Introductory Sailing I. For the beginning sailor; introduction to the basics of sailing, parts of the boat, sail trim, knot tying, capsize recovery. Uses SEA Excite sailboats. June 26-30 and July 10-14, 9 am-noon; July 3, 5-7 ($140, no program July 4) and July 17-21, 12:30-3:30 pm. $170. Introductory Sailing II. Continues from Sailing I, with emphasis on boat handling, upwind sailing and seamanship. Participants must have previous sailing instruction. June 26-30 and July 10-14, 12:30-3:30; July 3, 5-7 ($140, no program July 4) and July 17-21, 9 am-noon. $170. Sailing Adventures. Class for sailors adept at the basics of boat handling and sailing upwind and looking for more adventure. Introduction and practice of elements of competitive sailing including racing strategy. Includes a trip out river. July 24-28, 9 am-3 pm. $250.

Rowing/Sculling Camp, Narragansett Boat Club, 2 River Rd., Providence; 272-1838; www.RowNBC.org. Learn-to-row program features rowing and sculling for ages 11-19. Campers start on 12-seat rowing barges then ply the Seekonk River in individual beginning boats, eventually moving to the narrow racing single. Two sessions, Mon.-Fri., June 26-July 21 or July 24-Aug. 18. Morning classes are 7:30-9, 9-10:30, and 10:30-noon. Regatta at end of session. $220 per session. Boathouse open for visits weekdays 5-6 p.m.

Trident Camp, a three-day ocean experience for ages tentatively set at 6-11. Kids peer into the sea with hands-on encounters at the private aquarium Biomes in North Kingstown, learn the ropes aboard the Dutch yacht Brandaris sailing out of Wickford Harbor, and dive into indoor pool with Ocean State Scuba for scuba, snorkeling and kayaking. Wickford Sailing Association, Wickford Yacht Club, Pleasant Street, Wickford. Eight-week program June 26-Aug. 18. Four-week programs June 26-July 21 and July 24-Aug. 18. Minimum age: 8. Beginner and intermediate classes meet three times a week, 9 am-noon or 1-4 pm. Racing classes eight weeks only. Beginning racers meet one full day and two half days, and advanced racers meet three full days with occasional changes or additions for interclub racing. Classes taught by nationally certified instructors. Qualified racers may borrow boats for NBYA weekend regattas and Junior Race Week, Aug. 14-17. $510 for the summer for beginners and intermediates ($265 for 4 weeks), slightly more for racing classes.
