FAMILY CAMPS 03.12.2006 Family camp, where parents and kids go to camp together, is a growing concept across the country. The following are offerings in the Rhode Island area. But if you'd like to find out about far-flung family camps, the March issue of Budget Travel magazine rounds up 50, from an arts camp in California to a more traditional camp (trout streams and swimming holes) in North Carolina. Battleship Cove's Family Overnight Camping, Battleship Cove, 5 Water St., P.O. Box 111, Fall River. The program that revolutionized overnight camping on naval vessels in 1972 is now available for families. Campers sleep on a National Historic Landmark in restored Navy bunks, eating meals "chowline style" in the Officers' Wardroom, and rising to the sound of "Reveille." Guests receive all-day admission, three meals, and access to other activities such as movies, Morse Code classes, or knot-tying. University of Rhode Island alumni are invited to return to their alma mater to show their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews of all ages where they lived, studied and socialized. On July 29 and 30, stay overnight in a residence hall or come for the day. On- and off-campus activities include adventures at the W.
