More information on the Internet 03/14/2004 Parents and kids will find loads of information about camps on the Internet. Two Web sites are especially useful: WWW.ACACAMPS.ORG -- The national site of the American Camping Association provides listings of thousands of ACA-accredited camps of every type across the country. The ACA is a national not-for-profit organization that checks out camps in all 50 states according to many guidelines and awards them accreditation. One feature lets you plug in your zip code and find camps within a certain distance of your town. You can also order the book from the Web site. There's advice, including tips on how to choose a camp, what to pack, how to deal with homesickness and how to make sure your child is protected at camp. Kids will find articles about camp written for them, and older kids may be interested in the section about how to find a job at a camp. WWW.RICAMPS.ORG -- Sponsored by the Rhode Island Association of Camps, this Web site tells about the benefits of camps and how to choose a camp, as well as providing links for day and residential camps.
