Camp JORI, Wakefield. 521-2655. Co-ed residential camp on Worden's Pond in southern Rhode Island. Families may choose a 2-week experience for first-time campers, or a 4- or 8-week experience for first time or returning campers. Well-rounded experience includes field sports, ceramics, theater arts, swimming, archery, radio station, and waterfront activities. Grades 2-10 live in family-like environment in new cabins with bathrooms. Dietary laws are observed. Two weeks, $1,200; four weeks, $1,850. Camp begins June 28.

The adventure of sailing on the Brandaris, waterfront safety, crafting, games, exploring the waterways of Wickford and discovering the resources of waterfront communities. $150 per week. City Camp, 568-4055. Free urban day camp operated by Episcopal Conference Center, 275 North Main St., Providence. For ages 6-12 who live in the Olneyville neighborhood of Providence. Field trips and city days filled with crafts, games, sports, pool swimming, and other activities. Four two-week sessions, beginning June 28 or when school year ends. No cost to participants. Episcopal Conference Center Summer Camp, Echo Lake, Pascoag. Ministry of the Episcopal Church. From June 29-Aug. 28, each week of residential camp is geared to a particular age group and has a distinctive flavor. Three weeks are for campers in grades 2-7, featuring crafts, swimming, creative activities and religious instruction. Teen weeks, for grades 7-12, include a music and creative arts camp, conference and three work camps where fun, work, study and worship mix. Fees are $150-$240. Call ECC at 568-4055. Explorations at Henry Barnard School, a general day camp for children entering grades K-6, on the campus of Rhode Island College at the Henry Barnard Elementary School, 600 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence. Camp Hoffman, West Kingston, three-day to two-week resident sessions. Swimming, boating, horseback riding, kayaking, sports, drama, crafts, cookouts, challenge course and more. $150-$590 per session.

Adventure programs are located at Camp Hoffman and include ranger (primitive camping), surf camp, test your limits, wild water ride, inside out (yoga) and sea hunt (marine exploration).

Leadership Training programs offered to girls enterings grades 9-12 who wish to develop leadership skills.

Water Safety Instructor Aide: For those who love water and are intermediate swimmers. Upon completion of this program girls will be eligible to apprentice with an experienced Aquatic Staff member at a GSRI Day Camp in their area at no charge. Program takes place at Camp Promising Acres. Four-day resident program, June 22-25, $240.

Got Talent? Buddy Up!: Focuses on the traits of becoming a successful camp counselor. Learn and teach games, songs and camp skills. Limited bus transportation provided. Program takes place at Camp Nokewa. Three days (day only program), April 13, 14, 15. $150.

Counselor in Training I & II: Programs take place at Camp Hoffman in West Kingston. Participants will practice various teaching methods, leadership techniques and behavior management skills. (Resident Programs.) CIT I, 11 days, July 11-21; CIT II, 11 days, June 27-July 2 and July 5-9 (girls will go home July 2-5). CIT I, $350; CIT II, $200.

Wind-in-the-Pines Girl Scout Center in Plymouth offers half-week, one-week and two-week resident camp for girls entering grades 2-12 including backpacking, water sports, boating, rafting, equestrian sports, theater and the arts. Martha's Vineyard (Wampanoag Girl Scout Center) and Nantucket (Taupawshas Girl Scout Center) resident programs center on biking, kayaking and sightseeing. Fees for resident camp start at $270 per week, depending on the program. Financial aid is available. Day camps run at Edith Read Girl Scout Center in Norton ($100 per week), Wind-in-the-Pines in Plymouth ($125 per week), Greenbrier Girl Scout Center in Acushnet ($100 per week) and Cape Cod Day Camp at Camp Greenough in Yarmouthport ($125 per week). Girls entering grades 1-12 choose from traditional camp activities and specialty programs featuring science and nature, challenge and theater. Offering arts, music, a Broadway show, computers, sciences, sports, games and wood shop. Salvation Army Summer Day Camp, Salvation Army, 102 High St., Pawtucket. 723-9533. The Summer Adventure Club operates June 21-Aug. 20, 6:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., for ages 5-15. Arts and crafts, games, sports, computers, movies, music, swimming, trips. $135 per week includes breakfast, lunch and snacks. Discount registration fee for families, based on income and the number of children. Registration April 16 to June 21. Overnight Camp CONNRI is the Salvation Army's overnight camp in Ashford, Conn. Ages 7-11. One-week sessions, July 2-Aug. 1.

A six-week overnight camp on Gardner Lake for boys entering grades 7-12 that combines academics (making up credits, enhancing skills) and traditional camp fun. Academic class periods are every day except Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon, while afternoons involve sports, swimming, boating and field trips. 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. is supervised study. Summer Peace Camp, a violence-prevention specialty camp with lessons on diversity, community planning, and Kingian Nonviolence, held at St. Michael's Country Day School, 180 Rhode Island Ave., Newport. U.S. Military Cadet Corps Summer Encampment at Camp Fogarty in East Greenwich. An overnight camp for boys and girls at least 11 years old who want to learn general military sciences. Includes military protocol and traditions, physical training, climbing and rappelling, swimming, marksmanship, orienteering and more. Wheeler Summer Camp. A day camp at the 120-acre Wheeler School Farm in Seekonk for ages 4-14 including traditional, specialty and adventure camps.
