Scare up some time for horror film fest
01:00 AM EDT on Thursday, October 18, 2007

A scene from Cthulhu, also part of the Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival.
Run for your life! The Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival is coming!
There will be vampires and voodoo, ghosts and ghouls, a chicken that’s not a chicken, and one very, very bad bunny.
Oh, what’s the point? You can’t hide. Face your fears. You’ll find them in 43 installments at five locations today through Sunday.
The festival, now in its eighth year, kicks off at 5 p.m. today at the Providence Public Library, 50 Empire St. Two documentaries will have their New England premieres: Kreating Karloff, which is a tribute to Boris Karloff, and Vampira the Movie, which is about horror hostess Maila “Vampira” Nurmi.
The festival continues this evening at the Brooklyn Coffee and Tea House, 209 Douglas Ave., Providence, where the focus will be short horror films, with screenings at 7 and 8:30 p.m.
Friday at 7 at the Shorebreak, Narragansett Cinema, 3 Beach St., Narragansett, there’s a retro chiller, Chill, followed at 9:15 p.m. with Cthulhu.
At midnight, Friday and Saturday, the Cable Car Cinema, 204 South Main St., Providence, presents a double feature: Gay Bed and Breakfast of Terror, which sounds self explanatory, as does Gay Zombie.
On Saturday, URI’s downtown Providence campus, 80 Washington St., presents three zombie flicks at noon, with other afternoon and evening offerings at the Shorebreak and the Brooklyn Coffee and Tea House.
On Sunday, the festival is noon to 11 p.m., at URI Providence and the Shorebreak.
Admission to each show is $10; a six-show package is available for $40. Tickets may be purchased at the door or online at www.RIFilmFest.org. You can also call (401) 861-4445. A complete list of screenings follows.
