Fall Guide: Halloween a time for frights
04:31 PM EDT on Wednesday, September 19, 2007
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Halloween is coming, and everywhere you go, somebody’s trying to frighten you and your children out of your wits.
Newport’s Fort Adams has become “Fortress of Nightmares,” Fall River has a “Factory of Terror,” the Providence Children’s Museum hosts a “Boo Bash,” and there’s “Field of Screams” on a West Greenwich farm.
Even Roger Williams Park Zoo is “Spooky” on Sundays this month.
Take your pick of the events listed here to choose how scared you want to be. Many of them emphasize the lighthearted, fun side of Halloween with costume parties, trick-or-treating, children’s games and storytelling. Others are definitely for the stronger-of-stomach, with late-night hayrides past grisly scenes of death and murder.
It’s Halloween, remember — all about scaring yourself half to death to have a good time.
