Woonsocket resident sought after shooting incident Monday

01:00 AM EDT on Wednesday, September 3, 2008

Wright

WOONSOCKET — The police last night were looking for a 21-year-old city man in connection with a pair of late Monday night shootings that left two men in “serious but fair” condition in Rhode Island Hospital, the police said.

The suspect, Lawrence E. Wright, 21, of Burnside Avenue, was being sought on two charges of attempted murder, the police said in a written statement.

According to the police, the incident began in the vicinity of the Quick Mart on Diamond Hill Road sometime before 11:28 p.m. Two pairs of men got into an argument there, the police said, and “weapons were introduced in the conflict.” One of the four men was shot and the shooter and his partner fled on foot to a waiting car, which drove away on Fulton Street.

The gunshot victim and his friend then got into their car and chased them, the police said. The chase went down Fulton Street, then west onto Estes Street, with the gunshot victim and his friend ramming the shooter’s car.

Both cars stopped at Estes and Social streets, where the friend of the gunshot victim got out of the car and approached the shooter’s car. The friend was then shot, also by Wright, the police said. Wright and his friend then fled the area on foot, the police said.

The police said Wright should be considered armed and dangerous. Those with information about the suspect should call the police department at 766-1212 or 911.
