01:00 AM EST on Wednesday, December 12, 2007

WOONSOCKET — Fire raged through an apartment house on Earle Street last night, injuring a firefighter and forcing four or five families from apartments in the building.

The fire was reported at 4:58 p.m. Six hours later, firefighters were still putting out hotspots, according to firefighter Jeff Burlingame in the Woonsocket fire alarm center.

The building appeared to have been completely destroyed.

Burlingame said everybody inside the apartment house got out unhurt. He said a firefighter was taken to the hospital.

The nature and extent of his injuries weren’t immediately known.
