A steak fry to benefit the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center will be held tomorrow, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. at the Black Water Tavern, 273 Nooseneck Hill Rd., Exeter. There will also be a live auction and raffle baskets. Tickets are $25, and may be purchased by calling the center at (401) 738-9700 or the Tavern at (401) 385-9191. The center helps families affected by domestic violence.

The Rhode Island Branch of the International Dyslexia Association and the Dunn Institute for Learning Differences will hold its annual meeting and dinner Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rhode Island Shriners, 1 Rhodes Place, Cranston. Jonathan Green, director of The Hamilton School at Wheeler School, Providence, will speak on “Looking Beyond the Reading Deficits in Children with Dyslexia.” The cost is $35. Big Sisters of Rhode Island will hold its fifth-annual Halloween Bowling Bash on Sunday, Oct. 19, from noon to 3 p.m. at AMF Cranston Lanes, 1450 Elmwood Ave., Cranston. The Rhode Island Association of Admission Officers will sponsor its 32nd-annual Regional College Fair on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on the Community College of Rhode Island’s Knight Campus, 400 East Ave., Warwick. College representatives from about 200 institutions of higher learning will offer information to students and their families.
A bone marrow drive will be held Sunday, Oct., 19, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Masons Hall, 585 Washington St., Coventry. The drive, testing for potential marrow donors, is being held for Donovan Sands, an 8-year-old with dyskeratosis congenita, a disease affecting fewer than 200 people worldwide. The screening process consists of swabbing the inside of the cheek.
The Trudeau Center, 3445 Post Rd., Warwick, will present its 18th-annual Indoor Powwow Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25-26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be held in the Larkin Recreation Building, behind the Post Road building. It will feature more 40 vendors, pony rides, a bunny corral, an authentic tepee and the Split Feather Singers. The Wolf Cry Singers and Native American Hoop Dancer Pete Fourwinds will perform Saturday. All proceeds will benefit the Trudeau Center. For more information, call (401) 739-2700, ext. 278.
The National Federation of the Blind of Rhode Island will hold its 38th-annual convention Saturday, Oct. 25, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Radisson Airport Hotel, 2081 Post Rd., Warwick. The keynote address will be given by Dan Frye, associate editor of the Braille Monitor. The cost of the luncheon is $22. There is a $5 registration fee for anyone not having lunch. The seventh-annual Wrap-A-Friend coat distribution day will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Emanuel Lutheran Church’s fellowship hall, 9 New London Ave., West Warwick. More than 5,000 gently used coats of all sizes and styles will be distributed to people in need.
Make a Thanksgiving cornucopia at the Parker Woodland Wildlife Refuge, 1670 Maple Valley Rd., Coventry, on Wednesday, Nov. 19, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Participants will fill an empty cornucopia basket with dried flowers, leaves, faux gourds, pumpkins and apples.
