Temple Sinai, at 30 Hagen Ave. in Cranston, will hold its fourth-annual outdoor Shabbat celebration today, June 20, at 5:45 p.m. There will be a brief service, a picnic and a sing-along.
The American Cancer Society will hold a Relay for Life walk and run today and tomorrow, June 20 and 21, at Pilgrim High School, 111 Pilgrim Parkway, Warwick. The relay will run continuously from 6 p.m. today to noon tomorrow.
Weekend
The Narragansett Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club will hold a family outing tomorrow, June 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Browning Mill Pond in Arcadia State Park, West Greenwich. There will be family hikes and participants may bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after the walk. Information about the club’s activities will be available. Prevent Child Abuse Rhode Island will hold a free Kids’ Safety Day at Kohl’s Store, Warwick, tomorrow, June 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be safety demonstrations, face painting, temporary tattoos, car seat checkpoint, children’s crafts, entertainment, music, fire and police squads, and snacks.
The 21st-annual Bike MS: Fidelity Investments Bike Tour from Cranston to Dartmouth, Mass., a 150-mile round trip, will leave Cranston High School West, 80 Metropolitan Ave., at 8 a.m. tomorrow, June 21. The group will bike to University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, stay overnight and return to Cranston West on Sunday afternoon, June 22.
The sixth season of the Pawtuxet Village Farmers Market opens tomorrow morning, June 21, in the parking lot of Rhodes on the Pawtuxet, Broad Street, Cranston. There will be canoe rides, a wildflower walk, and used-book sale. Six Rhode Island farmers will sell free-range eggs, strawberries, spinach, lettuce, asparagus, basil and spring vegetables. Also for sale will be honey, handmade soaps and lotions, locally baked breads and pastries, and a variety of plants.
The book sale will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Most books will sell for $1. Book donations may be dropped off between 8 and 9 a.m.
Canoes will be rented by the hour beginning at 9 a.m. from the lower parking lot. The rentals are $3 for adults and $1 for children. For reservations, call Hillary at (401) 784-8240.
Rod Rodrigues, a naturalist, will lead a wildlife walk along the river at 10 a.m. No dogs are allowed.
Monday
Two new book clubs for the blind and visually impaired are being started by IN-SIGHT, 43 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick. A fiction book club will be held for five weeks beginning Monday, June 23, from 9 to 11 a.m. The group will discuss Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen.
A nonfiction club will meet on Wednesdays, beginning June 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. The group will discuss The Great Hurricane of 1938 and Sudden Sea.
To be eligible to join, you must have a Talking Books machine. Participants will receive the book on cassette tape. A $5 materials fee will be charged. For more information, or to register, call Richard Andrade at (401) 941-3322, ext. 109.
Coming events
Shred-it and Kent Hospital will cosponsor their second-annual free document shredding day Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to noon at the hospital, 455 Toll Gate Rd., Warwick. (Go to the parking lot opposite the emergency department. Participants are asked to bring only what they can carry in paper bags or cardboard boxes. All documents will be shredded on site in a Shred-it van.
Cornerstone Adult Services will hold its 11th-annual golf classic Monday, Aug. 4, at the Foster Country Club. There will be a shotgun start at 10 a.m., followed by dinner and a live auction.
