TIVERTON — Civilian employees have filed a grievance, complaining of sexual harassment by Police Chief Thomas Blakey, a union official representing them said yesterday.
The Town Council is to discuss Blakey in a closed-door meeting on Monday night, according to an agenda published yesterday by the town clerk’s office.
Town officials, including Town Administrator Glenn Steckman and Town Solicitor Andrew M. Teitz, have declined to comment, but Town Council members Donald Bollin and Arthur “Buzz” Wyman Jr. confirmed that Blakey is on administrative leave, according to the Herald News of Fall River.
Sue Conboy, shop steward for Local 2670A of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, said she became aware of the workers’ complaints a couple of weeks ago.
As a result, the union filed a grievance with the workers’ police supervisor alleging unsafe working conditions, Conboy said.
“People felt uncomfortable in the building,” she said.
Deputy Police Chief Nicholas Maltais, the senior officer on duty yesterday, declined to comment. Blakey could not be reached.
