Conservationists are working to protect large tracts of land in Tiverton and Little Compton. In this aerial photo looking north from the town line, Almy Creek at the bottom runs through the High Hill or Fogland Marsh after flowing out of Nonquit Pond. The tilled fields in the middle of the picture are Ferolbink Farm.

At the top of the photo is the large wooded area that includes Weetamoo Woods, the Pardon Gray Preserve and Pocasset Ridge, the largest forest in the East Bay region. Weetamoo Woods is owned by the Town of Tiverton and Pardon Gray by the Tiverton Land Trust. The Pocasset Ridge area is gradually being protected through acquisitions.

According to the Sakonnet Conservation Coalition, the Ferolbink lands may soon be protected from development. The area around Nonquit Pond is “high on the list” of priority properties for protection. See Commentary on Page D6.
