Seaside Classic soccer tourney brings thousands to South Kingstown
01:00 AM EDT on Friday, July 11, 2008
No, it’s not your imagination. South County is definitely more crowded today than it was yesterday, and it’s not just the beachgoers who have invaded.
The South County Youth Soccer Club is hosting its 16th annual Seaside Classic, the largest soccer tournament in New England, and 3,000 soccer players on 166 teams, along with their coaches, families and college scouts, have come to South Kingstown.
Teams from throughout New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as well as Canada, will play tomorrow and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the University of Rhode Island, off Route 138 in Kingston; at Curtis Corner Middle School, on Curtis Corner Road; at Tuckertown Park, on Tuckertown Road; and at Ocean State Soccer, on Stony Lane in North Kingstown.
