Dave Coté, a candidate for state representative in Dist. 36 (Westerly, Charlestown, South Kingstown and New Shoreham), says that, if elected, he will be a “voice of common sense and reason for out-of-control state government spending.”

Once elected, he said in a release, “I will work towards disclosure and transparency of public matters (i.e. state budget) where the personal financial impact is understood by the average citizen. In the state General Assembly there is a lack of leadership towards telling the truth about the situation of too many promises which are not sustainable.”

The Republican is running against Democrat Donna M. Walsh, and Matthew J. McHugh, an Independent.

Narragansett Town Council candidate David J. Crook Sr. says that he is running again after a four-year hiatus because he loves the town.

The former councilman, who has been a resident for 33 years, said in a statement, “During my previous terms on the council, I tried to slow down the reckless building and the careless permissiveness of misbehavior in the neighborhoods. Unfortunately, I was too often a lonely voice on the council, so I was unable to secure the kind of major changes I believed were necessary.”
