Evita at Matunuck: Evita, the Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd Weber musical based on the life of Eva Peron, is on stage through Aug. 3 at Theatre By The Sea, 364 Cards Pond Rd., Matunuck.
Performances are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 8 p.m.; Thursday at 2 and 8 p.m.; Saturday at 4:30 and 8:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 5 p.m. Tickets range from $39 to $49, with student rush tickets, at $15, available on a limited basis one hour prior to curtain time the day of the performance. The Producers will run Aug. 6 through 31.
Granite Theatre: Westerly’s Granite Theatre, 1 Granite St., presents the comedy It Runs in the Family through Sunday.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18, $15 for senior citizens and $11 for children. For reservations, call 596-2341.

Shakespeare in Westerly: David Birney returns to the Colonial Theatre’s Shakespeare Festival this summer in the role of Jaques in As You Like It, running through Aug. 3 in Westerly’s Wilcox Park. Performances are at 8 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
Rosalind will be portrayed by Alysia Reiner, who played Christine, Jack’s fiancée, in the movie Sideways, which won a SAG award for outstanding ensemble cast. She has also appeared on The Sopranos, Law and Order: SVU, The Practice, Family Law, and The Drew Carey Show, and will be playing the recurring role of Cindy on the new fall television series The Starter Wife.
Celia will be played by Purva Bedi, the star of the cult classic American Desi. Her television work includes appearances on Boston Legal, Alias, Law and Order, House, ER, and The West Wing.
Providence native Bob Colonna will be Touchstone, while Enriqué Bravoplays Orlando. Local resident Bucky Walsh, whose credits include Broadway, film, and television, will be Corin the shepherd.

The Full Monty: West Kingston’s Courthouse Center for the Arts, 3481 Kingstown Rd., presents its last performances of The Full Monty, by Terrance McNally and David Yasbeck, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, at 8 each evening. Playhouse productions: The Cornerstone Playhouse, 213 Robinson St., Wakefield, is staging the following shows:

Youth group performs: The Fantasy Works Youth Theater’s South County Company, comprising 80 local children, will present the Broadway “Junior Musical” Willy Wonka, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at North Kingstown High School, 150 Fairway Drive, North Kingstown.
The hour-long musical is based on Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and includes the songs “The Candy Man,” “Think Positive,” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket.” Tickets are $12, and may be purchased in advance at www.ArtTixRI.com or by calling 621-6123; they will also be available at the door.
Courthouse productions: The Courthouse Theatre Company will host a playwrights’ festival, when a series of one-act shows by local playwrights will be presented Friday and Saturday, at 7 each evening. Tickets are $10
Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, which involves audience members in choosing the order of 30 short plays, will be presented Aug. 7 through 9, and 14 through 16, at 7 p.m.; and Aug. 8 and 15 at 10 p.m. Tickets are $15, $10 for students.

Music
Chamber music festival: The Kingston Chamber Music Festival celebrates its 20th year with a series of special performances, in addition to its annual evening concert series, through Aug. 1. The schedule includes:
July 24, works by Boccherini and Tchaikovsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sheherazade; July 26, works by Schonfeld, Ridenour, Gershwin and Brahms; July 28, Strauss, J.S. Bach and Brahms; July 30, works by Ravel and Schubert; and an all-Mozart program, Aug. 1. Each begins at 8 p.m. in the URI Fine Arts Center’s concert hall, 105 Upper College Rd., Kingston. Tickets are $20 each, or $70 for four concerts, $85 for five, and $100 for all six.
In addition, Gail Niwa and Natalie Zhu will present an all-piano concert July 27 at 4 p.m. at the Courthouse Center for the Arts, on Route 138 in West Kingston. Admission is $25.
Haydn’s Seven Last Words of Christ for string quartet will be performed July 29 at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Rd., Kingston, and July 30 at Dunn’s Corners Presbyterian Church, 221 Post Rd., Westerly; each begins at 11 a.m., and tickets are $10. Admission is free to a children’s concert July 26 at 11 a.m. in the Fine Arts Center.

Songwriters’ showcase: Local folk musicians will perform as part of a songwriters’ showcase sponsored by the Rhode Island Songwriters Association, July 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Towers, 35 Ocean Rd., Narragansett. Admission is $10.

Concert series: The North Kingstown Arts Council is sponsoring a series of summer concerts, at 7 p.m. at the Town Dock, behind 55 Brown St., Wickford. Coming shows include the Black Tie Band with Nancy Paolino, July 22; Bush Wack Band, July 29; and Brass Attack, Aug. 19.
A family concert series each Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the North Kingstown Town Beach will feature the following performers:

Band concerts: The Lafayette Band will perform a series of summer concerts, each night at 7 at the following locations:

The Wakefield Civic Band will perform at Marina Park, off of Route 1 in Wakefield, each Monday, through Aug. 4, at 6:30 p.m.
Outdoor concerts: The Village at South County Commons, off Route 1 in Wakefield, will host the following Thursday nights concerts, each from 6 to 8:
July 24, Abby Roades (Beatles music); July 31, Paul Borrelli Band featuring Neil Vitullo (Swing, classic rock and contemporary music); Aug. 7, Bandstand Revue, (oldies); and Aug. 14, The Igniters (Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago covers). Non-perishable food items will be collected for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank at each show.
Village Green show: Zee’s Country Band will perform on the Peace Dale Village Green, 325 Columbia St., Peace Dale, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Exhibits
Gallery exhibit: Hera Gallery, 327 Main St., Wakefield, is hosting “30 Days + 24 Hours,” a comic book exhibition, challenge, and marketplace featuring Rhode Island-based artists working in styles based or originating in the comic book format.

Westerly gallery show: “Carousel” is the theme of the current show, running through Saturday, at the Artists’ Cooperative Gallery, 12 High St., Westerly.
Featured artists are Lynn Anderson, the author and illustrator of a children’s’ book about the carousel in Watch Hill who will display some of her 35 original watercolors; and Diane Brownhasal, whose oil paintings of local beaches will be on view.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Art stroll: Westerly’s monthly art stroll runs from 5 to 8 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month, when downtown studios and galleries are open to the public.
Library exhibit: Artwork by Webster Terhune is on view at the Cross’ Mills Public Library, 4417 Old Post Rd., Charlestown, through July.
August will feature the works of Frances Topping.
Education exhibit: “Education for All: Schools and Schooling in South Kingstown, 1780-1920” is an exhibit featuring photographs, books, documents and artifacts from the collections of the Pettaquamscutt Historical Society, on display at the Old Washington County Jail, Route 138, Kingston, through Oct. 16.
The exhibit documents the establishment of a public school system in South Kingstown, through the 18 and 19th centuries.
Association members’ shows: The South County Art Association, 2587 Kingstown Rd., Kingston, hosts its open juried art annual through Aug. 2.
Gallery hours are 1 to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.
Native American exhibit: Exeter’s Tomaquag Museum, 390 Summit Rd., is hosting an exhibit, entitled “The Pursuit of Happiness: An Indigenous View.”
The exhibit was developed in response to the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities’ call for proposals looking at the Declaration of Independence’s claim of every American having the “inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” It is a collaborative effort between Narragansett tribal leaders, Tomaquag Indian Memorial Museum professionals, historians and educators, who share their views on the notion of what happiness is today for the indigenous people of Rhode Island.
Also on view is a special exhibit entitled “Promoting Dialogue: Lessons Learned From Ellison ‘Tarzan’ Brown.” Brown, a Narragansett Indian, won the Boston Marathon in 1936 and 1939, and competed in the 1936 Olympics.

Quilt display: Over 100 quilts from around New England will be on display at South County Museum, on Strathmore Street in Narragansett, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Admission is $8, $4 for children age 6 to 12.
Rehearsals
Choir rehearsals open: The choir of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is open to high school students and adults, and rehearses at the church, 55 Main St., Wickford, Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., and Sunday at 10 a.m., prior to the morning service. Pet portrait workshop: The South County Art Association is conducting a pet portrait workshop, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fees are $65 for members, $80 others.

Open studio: The Wickford Art Association gallery hosts an open studio each Monday that features long-pose figure drawing on even dates, and portraiture on odd. Each runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the fee is $10.
Larry Gerber will lead a two-day workshop, entitled “Brushstrokes,” at the Wickford Art Association, 36 Beach St., Wickford, Aug. 2 and 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Participants will learn how to manipulate light, color and strokes to convey particular emotions. Fees are $513 for members, and $525 for others; to register call 294-6840.
